Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the last poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
