Texas Holdem Poker : Semi-Bluffing and Defensive Betting
Seems like most men and women are always talking about pre-flop system, so I would like to speak a tiny bit about how I bet on following the flop. Maybe I can assist others, or possibly they have advice to improve my play.
I consider that two of the most significant plays following the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. Which is because these are the plays you make whenever you havent hit a hand but you’ve got a very good drawing hand. Its easy to play a hand once you flop a monster. Except I imagine that these 2 are the best approaches to bet on a drawing. Each one is bet depending on you opponent(s) and your postion. So here is how I play it, so tell me what you think.
Early Place – Tight Competitors:
A semi-bluff works fairly effectively in this position. Appear out wagering and if a tight player did not hit a hand he’ll most likely lay down, and if he’s unsure you may possibly obtain a call. But watch out, if that tight gambler comes back more than the best it may be time to have away.
Early Position – Loose Competitors
This is had been I like to complete a defensive bet. Make a decision how many chips you are willing to risk on your draw and wager. It is usually a much lower wager than normal. It has been my understanding that the loose gambler will usually just call a wager instead of re-raise. Nonetheless, if you check to them, theyre a lot more likely to throw in far more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Placement – Tight Opponents
This is the finest time to accomplish a semi-bluff, especially if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you will probaly pick up the pot now. If a player before has bet, you have to come to a decision if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he will possibly go away since he was trying to steal the pot. In the event you believe he does, well then it’s time to determine your odds, and decide if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Place – Loose Opponents
This one is often a bit complicated, because it’s harder to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late location against loose player, odds are they’ve already wager. This can be had been I usually decide to take a chance and appear back over the top of them and pray they do not call, and if they do, nicely then its time to gamble. Chances are though even a loose gambler will go away in case you arrive back strong enough.
Don’t forget though that these are moves I only generate right after the flop comes and I have a reasonable drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Possibly 4 to the flush or the open ended straight, for instance.
