NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
