Pai Gow is played with 53 cards; the normal 52-card common deck and a single joker. The player is dealt 7 cards face up and the dealer is dealt seven cards face down.
A 5 card hand and one two card hand have to be put together from the 7 cards dealt, the 5 card hand has to be higher than the two card hand. To succeed, a player is required to have both of his hand totals to be higher than the casino’s.
