No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
